Geologic Time Mini Project

Earth has a long, long history, only part of which was characterized by the presence of life.  The purpose of this project is to help you become better acquainted with Earth's long history, and the history of life on Earth itself!

Begin by watching this short video which will give you some idea of how long Earth has been here, and when major events in Earth's history happened.  In this video, the entire history of this planet has been compressed to fit within one year on Earth.

See the video by clicking this link.

You and your partner(s) have been hired by a Travel Agency to promote travel through time to explore Earth's long history.  Each group will be assigned one of the major eras of Earth's past to explore,  and to explain to our audience you may receive the Pre-Cambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic or Cenozoic Era.

Your first task is to collect the information you'll need for your report. There is very specific information that you need to include in your report and you can find this information on the
Geologic Time Guided Research Data Sheet.  Fill in this sheet as you do your research, you will turn this in to demonstrate that you've done your share of the work.  I advise you to divide up the work that needs to be done, assigning different areas to different members of your group.

You may of course use any resource that you'd like to find your information, the internet has lots of wonderful sites which are dedicated to the Geologic Time Scale of Earth.  However, here are a few resources that I've selected to you to get started.

HELPFUL HINT!
This project has basically three stages or parts:  Part One involves gathering and recording specific information about your Geological Era.  Use the Guided Research Data Sheet, the links I've provided and other internet sources as necessary.

Part Two involves putting the information you've found into your own words, and preparing the material for inclusion in your project.

Part Three involves presenting the information using the
Google Slides feature on your Google Drive. Each group should designate a Leader who will create the presentation and share it with all other members of the group.  Group Members should divide up the work that needs to be done and work collaboratively to prepare the presentation.  The person chosen as Leader should coordinate and supervise the groups' efforts.
