Technology Plan

Section 5: Collaboration with Adult Literacy Service Providers

Through the adult education program, adults in the district have access to a wide range of technology including an adult education computer lab with nine stations, a mobile lab with ten laptops, as well as the other computer labs in the district. The adult education program offers instruction ranging from beginning computer classes to specific software packages such as Office, Quickbooks, and Photoshop Elements. Moreover, some courses, such as Computers for Seniors and Technology Skills for College, target specific segments of the adult population.  In addition to specific computer courses, the adult education program uses distance education technology (ATM, ITV), online learning  (Ed2go), computer assisted learning (PLATO) for basic skills upgrade, credit replacement and GED preparation, and computerized assessments (Accuplacer, ParaPro). In consultation with the technology department, the adult education program maintains a website with a secure online registration system. Computer literacy programming for adults will continue to be developed by the adult education department with input from the technology department, from the community through course evaluations and surveys, and from partnerships with the community college system and literacy volunteers.
